Dr Nandalan is on the GMC Specialist Register for Anaesthesia as well as Intensive Care Medicine.  He trained in the South West (Bristol) school of Anaesthesia.  Upon completion of the dual certification, he joined as a full time Consultant at WWL in 2006.  In addition to the anaesthetic postgraduate qualifications, he holds the European Diploma in Intensive Care Medicine (EDICM), and a Postgraduate Certificate in NHS Management (Birkbeck College, London University).

In Anaesthesia he cares for patients who are having high-risk vascular surgery, breast cancer surgery, general surgical procedures, and those having orthopaedic and trauma surgery.  In the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), in association with seven other Consultant colleagues, he cares for the sickest patients in the Royal Albert Infirmary. He is actively involved in promoting evidence-based practice in both these areas.  

Dr Nandalan is a keen teacher and is dedicated to training, and supporting junior doctors. He is a faculty member for the Advanced Life Support (ALS) Course, Greater Manchester Acute Illness Management (GMAIM) Course, and the local “Surviving Sepsis” workshop.  He is currently doing research in pain management after breast cancer surgery.  His publications include papers of original work, case reports, as well as co-editing of the handbook of “Caring for the Acutely Ill Patient” produced by the Critical Care Network in Greater Manchester.  Dr Nandalan is the Lead Anaesthetist for the perioperative care of elderly patients with hip fractures.  He is a member of various Anaesthesia and Intensive Care organisations in the country that ensure patient safety, promote best practice and evidence-based medicine.
