Community Assessment Unit

OVERVIEW:

The Community Assessment Unit (CAU) provides holistic assessment and treatment for people who would benefit from a reablement (temporary care to help you get back to normal and stay independent) approach helping people to achieve optimum independence to return to their place of residence.


The unit is staffed by a specialist team including a consultant in elderly care, nursing staff, nurse consultant for falls, nurse consultant for older adults, therapy consultant, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dietitians, speech and language therapists and a pharmacist with support technician.

The CAU is managed by the Trust’s Community Services Division, supported by health partners across the borough, as well as, having links physically and operationally to the hospital.

The CAU consists of 21 community beds, including nine single rooms, with a further six assessment chairs.

The CAU is situated at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary in Wigan.
